Monash South Africa alumni
The year in review – 2009
Monash South Africa alumni were particularly active in 2009, hosting a wide variety of activities for alumni in South Africa and Botswana.
Highlights included the establishment of two alumni volunteer committees; the South Africa Volunteer Committee and the Botswana Volunteer Committee. Generous volunteers worked throughout the year to coordinate local alumni events.
In July, alumni in South Africa held a charity event at the A-maize-ing Maze in Honeydew. Alumni took part in a ‘maze challenge’ to raise funds and collected clothes and blankets for the Video Centre Kids charity. This was followed by a professional development event, in October, for recent graduates on how to market themselves to employers.
The year concluded with an alumni networking dinner and a symposium at the South Africa campus. Australian of the Year and Monash alumnus Professor Mick Dodson AM (BJuris 1974, LLB 1978) received a warm welcome during his keynote address about ‘challenges and opportunities in Australian Indigenous education’.
