Monash University Student Volunteer Program

The Monash University Student Volunteer Program (MUSVP) is a student run community engagement initiative run at the Monash South Africa campus. MUSVP was initiated to enable students to both engage with and empower local communities.

MUSVP was established at Monash South Africa in 2007 by Mr. Muhammed Aliyu who was then the Community Outreach Officer of the Monash University South Africa Student Association (MUSASA). When the programme was first introduced, it was geared towards helping children from local economically-disadvantaged communities by encouraging students to donate their time to volunteering to spend time with the children and provide basic services, such as tutoring.

Since 2007 the programme has grown steadily and is currently the largest on campus, with over 100 active volunteers. In 2010, MUSVP will be running five projects under the leadership of William Moore, which are:

  • The Monash Saturday School
  • Each-One, Teach-One
  • Renovate-A-Crèche
  • The Monash/Matla Matric Program
  • The MSA Community Donation Centre

MUSVP is always looking for new volunteers and supporters, so if you would like to get involved, please come by our new office space in the basement of the Admin building. Or contact us at wpmoo1@student.monash.edu
