Monash Youth Programme

Our annual Monash South Africa Youth Programme is taking place on campus on Saturday 13 October from 8:00 to 16:00. We are fortunate to have Nhlanhla Dlamini as our keynote speaker this time; he has always taken a keen interest in the Youth Programme and is passionate about sharing his knowledge and skills.

After obtaining a bursary Nhlanhla studied business at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a mentor for the International Training in Communication Society, a board member of the Johannesburg Junior Council, and has received several bursaries and awards for his leadership skills including the Sunday Times GetWise Leader of the Year in 2001. Nhlanla’s topic will be: “Personal mastery: every one of us a leader.”

The Monash South Africa Youth Programme has been running since 2001 and offers training in leadership and communication skills to learners at Grade 11 level. The aim of the event is “edutainment” – learners are encouraged to learn while having lots of fun!

The emphasis is on providing a unique learning experience that opens up subjects and topics learners are unlikely to encounter elsewhere, to debate and participate interactively and make their own voices heard.

The Monash student volunteers also play a vital part in the programme by acting as mentors and facilitators and assisting in the group activities. The learners have an opportunity to meet with university students and gain valuable insights into tertiary education.

We look forward to yet another fun-filled event – be sure not to miss it!
