Monash Cultural Day 2009

The Monash South Africa Cultural Day 2009 will take place on the sports field on Friday 18 September. The event will begin from 10:00 to 16:00 and all staff, their families and students are invited. As usual there will be two competitions, a Cultural Dish competition for the students, and a Potjiekos competition for staff members.
Each team (Potjiekos teams included) must decorate their stand according to a theme of their choice as part of the competition. Please note that spaces are limited and each department can only enter one team.

Every team that enters will be allocated an area on the field.  Advancement will provide the following for each team:

  1. One table
  2. Two umbrellas
  3. Six chairs
  4. Two bags of charcoal (potjiekos entries only)

Cast iron pots and tablecloths can be ordered from Advancment by paying a deposit beforehand. The deposit will be provided when the pot is returned after the event.
The potjies and cultural dishes are prepared to be enough for the judges to taste and for the team to enjoy afterwards.  Hot Spot will prepare a potjie with food for the spectators not taking part as a team.

The prizes for both competitions are as follows: 1st prize - Clearwater/Restaurant voucher to the value of R1500, 2nd prize - Clearwater/Restaurant voucher for the value of R1000, 3rd prize - Clearwater/Restaurant voucher to the value of R500.

A DJ will provide music during the afternoon and there will be performances by cultural groups and societies.

We hope that this event will create an opportunity to meet new people and those you haven’t seen for some time, to get to know each other better and more importantly, to have fun!
