Monash South Africa is located in Ruimsig, 25 km north-west of the Johannesburg city centre and is a few minutes away from the World Heritage Site, Cradle of Humankind.

The 2nd African Post Graduate Course “Victimology, Victim Assistance and Criminal Justice” at Monash South Africa will bring together around 40 students from all over the world and approximately 20 internationally renowned experts in the specialisation fields of victimology and criminal justice.

The course covers areas like crisis intervention, crisis management, victim assistance, victim compensation, restorative justice, abuse of power, victimisation vulnerability of specific groups, theoretical concepts of victimology, newest developments in victim assistance, institutional victimisation, international victim surveys, victim impact statements, etc. Experience in victimology and/or victim assistance is welcome but not necessary since this course is geared to a theoretical brush up. The course will be taught in English.

A nominal fee (10 Euros per day) has been arranged for students and lectures to stay at the very upmarket student residences at Monash South Africa and they can contact Dr Jaco Barkhuizen directly at jaco.barkhuizen@arts.monash.edu. However, all other participants are responsible for finding and booking their own accommodation if needed off campus.
 
Lectures begin at 09:00 and last until 13:00.  Between 13:00 and 15:00 is a lunch break and classes resume at 15:00 until 17:00. The last three days of the course are devoted to paper presentations by the students. Short presentations by the students of about 15 minutes in English language qualify for graduation from the course and lead to the highly desired certificate. The tuition fee for the course is 300 Euros per participant and has to be paid at the beginning of the course to the course directors mainly for the social activities. It is not necessary to pre-register for the course at Monash South Africa. However, please inform one of the course directors about your participation and, if appropriate, the number of accompanying students to allow us to plan accordingly.
