Topic: Australia and Africa: a new partnership.
Australia and South Africa are well known competitors in sport, but there are many more areas of common interest in an increasingly connected world, where few global challenges can be solved by one country acting alone. Australia and South Africa have worked well together in the G20, the UN and on climate change and non-proliferation issues. Australia's multilateral priorities will be outlined and areas identified where the two countries can work more closely together to help address global issues and some of the challenges on the African continent.

Secretary General of the World Society of Victimology and Professor of Victimology, Tokiwa University, Japan.
Topic: Beyond Boundaries: The regional and global significance of victimology as a social science.
The regional and global relevance of Victimology and its value in the African continent and sub-Saharan region in particular will be explored. A specific focus will be on how this region can become an important role player in its further development and in advancing justice for victims of crime and abuse of power.
Date: 11 November 2010
Presenter: Dr Richard Stirzaker
Principal Research Scientist, Land and Water CSIRO, Australia; Honorary Prof, Dept of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, University of Pretoria.

The important connection between food and water will be highlighted in response to the need for more food from less water, less reliable water and poorer quality water. The problems and possibilities of industrial agriculture will be juxtaposed with those of small subsistence farmers, home gardeners and water authorities.
