Botswana Government officials Mr Bosele Radipotsane, Director of Student
Placement and Welfare, and Mrs T. P. Motlogelwa, Assistant to the Education
Consul, last week met with Monash South Africa Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor
Tyrone Pretorius and members of the senior management team.
The meeting was intended to strengthen and maintain the ongoing relationship
between the university and the Botswana Government and give the officials
an opportunity to visit the campus and view the facilities.
Discussions centred on pathways into Monash South Africa for prospective
students as well as study options for mature-age students working in Botswana.
This year, the Botswana Department of Student Placement and Welfare sponsored
about 2000 students at tertiary institutions in South Africa.
An annual placement expo is held in Gabarone in late July each year to
give sponsored students the opportunity to discuss their options with
tertiary institutions. A positive outcome of last week's discussions is
that, in future, the expo will take place a few weeks earlier to allow
more time for prospective students' visa applications to be processed.
