Two Botswana Consulate officials Mr Mmusi, Vice Consul Finance, and Mrs Motlogelwa, Vice Consul Education, visited the Monash South Africa campus last week.

The main purpose of their visit, which was coordinated by Mr Tshidi Khunou, International Recruitment Executive in the MSA Advancement Department, was to have discussions and share ideas with the approximately 450 Botswana Government-sponsored students enrolled at MSA and to update them on developments at the Botswana Ministry of Education.

Mr Mmusi and Mrs Motlogelwa met with Mrs Yolandi Kotze, Coordinator: Student Services and with MSA Executive Director, Mr James Lekoma, to discuss general issues. They were also taken on a tour of the new MSA Campus Centre and Learning Commons building and shown the site where construction has begun on four new residence buildings

A meeting was then held with the Botswana Government-sponsored students. “One of our aims was to highlight the obligations that sponsored students have with the Ministry of Education once they sign the agreement for sponsorship,” said Mrs Motlogelwa.

Students were also given an opportunity to discuss issues affecting them such as their off-campus accommodation allowances.

The Botswana Consulate has undertaken to participate in a follow-up meeting to give the students feedback with regards to the issues raised last week.
