The first two Monash South Africa students to graduate from the Monash Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Maatje Scheepers and Jacob Thomas, received their Honours Degree of Bachelor of Psychology at the Monash South Africa graduation ceremony held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 24 February 2007.
Maatje who is from Muldersdrift near the MSA campus, has enrolled for a Master’s Degree in Research Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand this year and she hopes to eventually build a career as a clinical psychologist.
Maatje said: “I’ve been at Monash South Africa for five years now where I completed an undergraduate degree and an honours degree. During this time the relationships I have built with lecturers and fellow students as well as the rich academic environment have been worthwhile experiences and the aspects I have enjoyed most.”
Jacob, who is from Gaberone in Botswana, hopes to be employed in the field of organisational psychology this year and also would like to study further in the future.
When asked about his time at Monash Jacob said that: “Unity in diversity has been one of the highlights I will cherish, as well as the individual attention I received from my supervisors. My best was captaining the Monash South Africa soccer team (voted Team of the Year in 2006). I will always remember the Psychology lecturers and students who have been my source of support during my degree.”
