The WSV is a non-profit organisation with Special Category consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations and the Council of Europe and encourages interdisciplinary and comparative victimological work and research to advance cooperation between international, national, regional and local agencies.
Dr Peacock presented lectures on the victimisation of children in prisons in South Africa based on his doctoral research. In addition to the international speakers, about forty postgraduate students, from universities around the world, participated in the course.
Lecturers also took part in each other’s lectures as delegates adding to the richness of the discussions.
According to Dr Peacock: “The course provided an excellent platform to create and extend research working relationships due to similar concerns relating to human rights, victims of crime, abuse of power and criminal justice.”
Dr Peacock has been appointed as a resource faculty member at the Inter-University Centre of Dubrovnik for purposes of the Annual International Post Graduate Course of Victimology, Victim Assistance and Criminal Justice in Eastern Europe. He has also been asked to serve Regional Development Commission of the WSV, a panel of regional and cultural membership ambassadors who advise on and promote recruitment within their own sectors.
Discussions are also underway for Monash South Africa to host the international African Post Graduate Course of Victimology, Victim Assistance and Criminal Justice. |
