Monash South Africa celebrated its third annual Cultural Day, on Friday last week, with a cultural dish and ‘potjiekos’ competition held on the campus sports field.
At the event, which was organised and hosted by the Advancement Department, two separate competitions were held, one for staff and alumni, and one for students. To add to the atmosphere of the day, a DJ provided music and student cultural groups, musicians and societies took part in singing, dancing and poetry performances.
“This annual event creates an opportunity to for staff and students to meet new people and spend time with those they haven't seen for some time, to get to know each other better, and more importantly, to have fun,” says Andre Lubbe, Director of Advancement at Monash South Africa.
In all 29 teams took part in the competition: 14 staff ‘potjiekos’ entries, and 15 student cultural dish entries. The winning student team was ‘Team Venda’, and the winning staff team was from the ‘School of Arts’.
For the first time this year a Monash South Africa Alumni team took part in the competition.
