Maragon Private Schools’ Head Girl for 2008, Jessica Louw, has been awarded a scholarship to attend Monash South Africa in 2009.

Besides excelling academically, while at school Jessica also participated actively in sports such as swimming, athletics, netball and horse riding.

“I am very excited and honoured to have been awarded this scholarship,” says Jessica. “As Monash is next door to Maragon, I had heard a lot about it, so came to see for myself at the Open Day last year. I was very impressed with the facilities and I liked the idea of the small tutorial groups and individual attention available at Monash.”

“I also liked the fact that it is a university with an international focus, and while studying at Monash I intend applying to go on a student exchange to Australia.”

Jessica is studying towards a Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree, majoring in Accountancy and aims to become a Chartered Accountant. In her spare time she teaches horse riding and plans to assist on a volunteer basis at the South African Riding for the Disabled (SARDA) centre across the road from the Monash campus.

“I believe that it is important for students to become involved in community service and SARDA is an ideal place for me to make a worthwhile contribution,” says Jessica.

Professor Simon Adams, Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor-International and Head of the School of Arts at Monash South Africa said: “We are thrilled that one of the best and brightest of Maragon's students has been chosen for a Monash scholarship. We are delighted to have Jessica Louw join us at Monash for the next stage of her life and career."

"Maragon Private Schools are our closest neighbours and our partners in bringing excellent world-class educational facilities to the West Rand area. As part of this partnership Monash intends offering a scholarship to a top performing Maragon school leaver on an annual basis.”

Dr Richard Kieck, Rector of Maragon Private Schools, said, “Jessica is the pioneer in the close relationship between Monash University and Maragon Private Schools. She is the first of many to follow.”
