Monash South Africa Alumni members were treated to an exclusive and unique event entitled ‘Imprinting Corporate Success: Imagine, Impress, Improve’, last Thursday when industry leaders presented the topic ‘Impression Management’ to help them enhance their images within the workplace.

Mike Fairon, business communication specialist for Re:engage, began the discussions with topic of Business Etiquette.  He highlighted some of the aspects of career management and discussed the subject of developing talent. Delegates were also given pointers on how to behave within the corporate world and on what it takes to succeed.

Luisa Maier, entrepreneur and founder of La Lash Marketing, used audiovisual clips to illustrate the use of impression management to enhance one’s career.

The last speaker, leading image consultant Esther Ndlovu, explained how to use outward appearance in the corporate world in order to get ahead in the workplace. She also gave tips on how to plan a wardrobe to fit with both the corporate world and one’s personality.

This event was organised by Monash Media and Communication (Honours) students, Malaika Alf, Kiki Kanyama and Madri Reinecke, in collaboration with the Monash South Africa Advancement Department, and formed part of their syllabus.

“We received excellent feedback on the event from delegates,” said Madri Reinecke. “The Gearing for Success events serve as an opportunity for career development as well as a dynamic platform for Monash alumni to network and build relationships.  In future more of these informative events will be offered to Monash South Africa alumni who want to broaden their horizons further, in order to become a success in the corporate world.”
