Entrance requirements
Minimum entry requirements
To be eligible for entry into an undergraduate
degree programme at Monash
South Africa, students must hold one of
the following:
- the South African Senior Certificate (SAFCERT) endorsing that the student has met the minimum requirements for university entrance in South Africa; or
- the South African National Senior Certificate (NSC); or
- a certificate issued by the Matriculation
Board exempting the student from having
to obtain SAFCERT certification; or
- GCE A Levels; or
- the International Baccalaureate
Diploma; or
- relevant post-secondary qualifications;
or
- other international qualifications
deemed to be equivalent to the above
(subject to university approval).
When applying, students should submit
certified original copies of one of
the above qualifications, as well as final
grades in subjects undertaken.
English Language Requirements – Degree Entry
English is the language of instruction and assessment at Monash South Africa.
Students must meet one of the following English requirements in order to be eligible for admission:
- A pass in an examination equivalent to English at the higher grade (first or second language) in the South African Senior Certificate, or a score of 4 (50 – 59%) in the National Senior Certificate (NSC).
- A pass in English at A level, O level, minimum of a C, International Baccalaureate or equivalent.
- American Tests of English (paper based) as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), achieving a minimum score of 580 with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5 or more – scores must be available for both TOEFL and TWE.
- Internet–based TOEFL: 90 overall, Writing 22 and no section below 20.
- International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), achieving a minimum score of 6.5 (Reading 6.5, Listening 6.5, Writing 6, Speaking 6).
English Language Requirements – Foundation Programme Entry
Students who have attended a school where the medium of instruction is not English should meet one of the following English language requirements:
- IELTS
- Arts stream – a score of 6 (no band lower than 6)
- Business and IT streams – a score of 5.5 (no band lower than 5)
- TOEFL
- Paper based – a score of 555 or
- Computer based – a score 221 or
- Internet based – 85 overall, 20 writing and no section below 18
Minimum age requirements
Students should turn 17 by 31 December in the year of admission.
