Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Research NodeThe Mission of the Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Research Node, Monash South Africa, reflects the Mission Statement of the Monash University Accident Research Centre - To conduct high quality public health injury prevention research and educational programs relevant to the challenges faced by contemporary Africa, and in so doing, engage and challenge government, industry and citizens to act collectively to eliminate serious health losses due to injury. It is this research excellence and commitment to the safety of the global population that has made the Research Node an acknowledged and respected leader in preventing injuries and injurious events across a range of settings from the road and workplace, as well as the home, school and sporting areas, and acute care rehabilitation. Road safety continues to be the cornerstone of transportation injury prevention activities. With the support of MUARC (Australia), MUARC Malaysia, MUARC-Europe in Prato, Italy and with collaborative partners in countries throughout the world, we will conduct health and injury prevention training and research activities. The United Nations Millennium Development Goals, particularly as they apply to road safety and child health will guide our activities. In having this focus and support, we aim to improve the health and well-being of African citizens by engaging with the future leaders of Africa in the areas health and safety promotion and road safety in particular.
