Scholarships at Monash South Africa

These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and are available to South African and International students. Applicants who achieve over 70% in their academic qualifications will be considered.

The scholarships are valued at a maximum of 50 – 100 per cent of the annual course fee and are available for full time and part time study. Scholarships do not cover other costs such as accommodation, travel and textbooks.

Scholarships are renewable each year, providing that students maintain a high academic achievement. At the end of each year, the Bursary and Scholarships Committee will assess students' performance and determine whether they are eligible to continue to receive the scholarship.

To be eligible for a scholarship you must first be accepted into the Master of Philosophy at Monash South Africa. 

Admissions criteria for Monash South Africa Scholarship

  • A four-year qualification or equivalent honours degree
  • 70% achievement or higher in this qualification
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Acceptance into the Master of Philosophy in Integrated Water Management

Ken Thiess Memorial scholarship

The International RiverFoundation, a partner of the International Water Centre, through the generosity of a private donor, provides scholarships to study the Master of Philosophy in Integrated Water Management in memory of Ken Thiess, a young man who died performing engineering duties on the construction of the Snowy Mountains Scheme.

The inaugural scholarship was awarded to Mr Olita Ogonjo for his outstanding commitment and dedication in improving the waterways in his home country of Kenya. "This course will make me a leader in water in Kenya. I will have the opportunity to investigate Kenya's water issues under the guidance of water experts." Mr Olita Ogonjo, Nairobi, Kenya.

The scholarship is for FULL TIME STUDY ONLY and includes tuition, international student health care, and miscellaneous expenses (e.g. student visa expenses).

Admissions criteria for the Ken Thiess Memorial Scholarship

  • A four-year qualification or equivalent honours degree
  • 70% achievement or higher in this qualification
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • It is recommended that applicants have a science background, research aptitude, an interest in multi-disciplinary water issues and some work experience.
  • Resident of a country with a demonstrated need for leadership in integrated water management.
