Working or studying after hours

When studying outside normal office hours on the campus you may wish to consider the following suggestions to ensure your safety:

• Ensure that other people know your whereabouts (staff, students, security)
• If parking on campus, park in a well lit area and as close as possible to your workplace or study area
• When leaving your office or study area you may want to arrange with security to walk with you to your vehicle
• It could be useful to carry a whistle with you
• Walk confidently with a purpose and with a fast pace
• Know the telephone numbers of Campus Security, (011) 950-4099 and the SAPS Emergency 10111 number
• Carry your keys in your hand for quick access to your vehicle, workplace or study area
• If followed or confronted, change directions and phone Security or the SAPS immediately
