Sport at Monash South Africa

While any tertiary institution’s primary function is academic, Monash South Africa also recognises the value of the development of the physical and social skills of students and staff and we acknowledge that sport is an important part of student life.

Monash South Africa therefore provides a variety of safe recreational facilities, competitive sports and leisure activities to promote good health, physical well-being and social fellowship.

Sports Office

The Sports Office is located within the Student Development Services Division at Monash South Africa and is committed to providing students and staff with a friendly, efficient, supportive and affordable service.

A growing administrative structure has been established for the organisation, co–ordination and control of all sports activities. There are currently twenty sport representatives (one from each sport); a number of sport coaches; a Monash Student Association Sport Representative; a Sports Officer and a Sports Coordinator.

The Sports Office is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering services, programmes and adequate sports facilities and resources on campus for a wide variety of sporting programmes, as well as for assisting sports players to achieve their sporting goals.

As part of our vision to create a vibrant young sports community on campus, we encourage and facilitate a variety of sports and programmes, while creating opportunities for sportsmen and sportswomen to develop sport leadership skills and positive self-esteem through participation, success and achievement.

Sports opportunities are provided to those competing at a recreational, competitive and elite level.

While participating in sport, students and staff are encouraged to uphold the name and norms of the university and of good sportsmanship.
